Strategic assessment
The quarter’s evidence pointed in one direction. Automation was working where rules were clean. The legacy claims engine captured only part of each claim and could not keep up with growing claim volume.

Portfolio choices
| Option | Value case | Quarter decision |
|---|---|---|
| Extend supported intake to more form types | Removes more keying | Require rule-fix evidence first |
| Move provider matching to the enterprise master | Addresses the largest fallout cause | Funded on the 99% proof of concept |
| Replace the claims engine | Homegrown EDI shredding into a normalized datamart before adjudication; 50% shorter enhancement turnaround. | Chosen over years of incremental fixes |
| Combine everything in one rollout | Coordination convenience | Rejected: compounding failure modes |
Investment guardrails
A demanded proof of concept set the pattern: when the team assumed the streaming platform would handle six claims a second with no data behind it, I asked for the test; it handled one, and the design changed before it was built. Quality, reconciliation and ownership belong above the line in quarterly reviews.
